About Shree-Lip

Shree-Lip (Shreelipi) is a family of legacy Tamil fonts widely used for publishing, printing and desktop publishing in Tamil. Its keystroke mapping is complete for the full Tamil orthography.

Because Shree-Lip covers all 216 uyirmei combinations, converting Shree-Lip text to Unicode is usually lossless for ordinary Tamil — which makes it one of the easiest legacy fonts to recover cleanly.

The main gap is the anusvara (ஂ), which has no Shree-Lip key. Digits are ASCII and pass through unchanged, matching how the font behaves in practice.

Edge cases

  • Full uyirmei: Shree-Lip covers all 216 consonant-vowel forms.
  • Anusvara: ஂ has no Shree-Lip key and passes through unchanged.
  • Digits: ASCII digits 0–9 pass through in both directions.
