About TSC (TSCII)

TSC is the Tamil Script Code for Information Interchange (TSCII), a standard defined in the 1990s so Tamil could be represented on DOS and Windows. It is one of the most complete legacy Tamil encodings — the table used here covers all 216 uyirmei (consonant-vowel) combinations.

TSC text is still common in government records, libraries and older Tamil software. Because the mapping is nearly complete, converting TSC to Unicode is usually lossless for ordinary Tamil text.

The only gaps are the Tamil zero digit (௦) and the anusvara (ஂ), which are absent from the TSCII source. Digits 1–9 and most punctuation convert normally.

Edge cases

  • Full uyirmei: TSC covers all 216 consonant-vowel forms, so ordinary Tamil converts cleanly.
  • Tamil zero: ௦ has no TSC key; the ASCII '0' is used instead.
  • Anusvara: ஂ (U+0B82) has no TSC key and passes through unchanged.
